Counterfeit Medications

Counterfeit drugs have been defined as products deliberately and fraudulently produced and mislabeled with respect to identity and source to make it appear to be a genuine product. Counterfeit medications include drugs that contain no active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), an incorrect amount of API, an inferior-quality API, a wrong API, contaminants, or repackaged expired products. Some counterfeit medications may even be incorrectly formulated and produced in substandard conditions.

Don't Ignore your numbers (Blood Pressure)

High Blood Pressure!

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is a common disorder of the circulatory system, affecting world’s adults and becoming more common with age. Older peoples may experience a change in their blood pressure pattern due to their arteries becoming more rigid (becoming less elastic). Most people do not even realize they have high blood pressure. Experts recommend that everyone should have checked their blood pressure regularly (preferably yearly).

Blood pressure is measured using an instrument called a sphygmomanometer. Blood pressure readings are a combination of two (Numbers) measurements. These are:
  •  Systolic: is the highest pressure against the arteries as the heart pumps. The normal systolic pressure is usually between 110 and 130mmHg.
  • Diastolic: is the pressure against the arteries as the heart relaxes and fills with blood. The normal diastolic pressure is usually between 70 and 80mmHg.
Can Cause

Hypertension usually does not produce any symptoms, because the organs of the body can resist high blood pressure for a long time. That’s why it is important to have regular medical examinations to make sure your blood pressure is in normal range.

High blood pressure over a period of time can contribute to many illnesses and diseases, including:
  1. Heart attack
  2. Heart failure
  3. Kidney disease
  4. Stroke
The Sources of Danger

Some of the factors which can contribute to high blood pressure include:
  1. Hereditary factors
  2. Obesity
  3. Lack of exercise or movements
  4. Extra in salt
  5. Drinking alcohol
  6. kidney disease
The effects of high blood pressure on the arteries are worsened by:
  1. Cigarette smoking
  2. High levels of saturated fat in the diet
  3. High blood cholesterol
  4. Diabetes.
Certain drugs can cause hypertension. Check your drugs with your doctor or pharmacist for alternatives. These drugs include:
  1. The combined contraceptive pill
  2. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories
  3. Some nasal drops and sprays
  4. Some cough medicines, eye drops and appetite suppressants.
It can be control

Two out of five people can successfully lower their blood pressure by making adjustments to their lifestyle. For example, a low-fat diet and giving up cigarette smoking will reduce the damaging effects of hypertension on the arteries. Some healthy lifestyle choices include:
  • Maintain your weight within the healthy range.
  • Eat a high-fiber, low-fat and low-salt diet.
  • Give up smoking.
  • Stop alcohol consumption.
  • Exercise regularly and do physical works (See your doctor before you start any new exercise program.)
Last Advice

In most cases, it is necessary to take antihypertensive medication as well. Any drug treatment for hypertension needs to be monitored carefully by your doctor or pharmacist. You should never alter the dose of your hypertension medication or stop taking it without consulting with your doctor or pharmacist.

What is medicine or drug

When we get sick we take medicine to get well soon. Commonly we call it medicine, and technical peoples call it drug. What is this drug or medicine?

A drug is any substance that causes a change in an organism's physiology or psychology when consumed. In pharmacology, a drug is a chemical substance, typically of known structure, which, when administered to a living organism, produces a biological effect. A pharmaceutical drug, also called a medication or medicine, is a chemical substance used to treat, cure, prevent, or diagnose a disease or to promote well-being.

Traditionally drugs were obtained through extraction from medicinal plants, but more recently also by organic synthesis. Pharmaceutical drugs may be used for a limited duration, or on a regular basis for chronic disorders.

A medication or medicine is a drug taken to cure any symptoms of an illness or medical condition. The use may also be as preventive medicine that has future benefits but does not treat any existing or pre-existing diseases or symptoms. Dispensing of medication is often regulated by governments into three categories- “over the counter” medications, which are available in pharmacies and supermarkets without special restrictions; “behind the counter” medicines, which are dispensed by a pharmacist without needing a doctor's prescription, and “prescription only medicines”, which must be prescribed by a licensed medical professional, usually a physician.

There are many precautions to be taken with medicines. It is important to make sure you take your medicines correctly. Always be guided by your pharmacist or doctor when you are taking any medicine.

How to stay safe from Covid-19

Protect yourself and others around you by knowing the safety facts and taking appropriate precautions. Follow advice provided by your local health authority.

If Covid-19 is spreading in your community, stay safe by taking some simple precautions, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue. Check local advice where you live and work. Do it all!

To prevent the spread of Covid-19:
Clean your hands often. Use soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub.
Maintain a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible.
Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
Cover your nose and mouth with your bent elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Stay home if you feel unwell.
If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention.

Calling in advance allows your healthcare provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This protects you, and prevents the spread of viruses and other infections.

Wear a mask

Masks
Masks can help prevent the spread of the virus from the person wearing the mask to others. Masks alone do not protect against Covid-19, and should be combined with physical distancing and hand hygiene. Follow the advice provided by your local health authority.

History of coronavirus

Coronaviruses are a big family of different viruses. Some of them cause the common cold in people. Others infect animals, including bats, camels, and cattle.

Experts say SARS-CoV-2 originated in bats. That’s also how the coronaviruses behind Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) got started. Experts say SARS-CoV-2 originated in bats. That’s also how the coronaviruses behind Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) got started.

Scientists first identified a human coronavirus in 1965. It caused a common cold. Later that decade, researchers found a group of similar human and animal viruses and named them after their crown-like appearance. Seven coronaviruses can infect humans. The one that causes SARS emerged in southern China in 2002 and quickly spread to 28 other countries. More than 8,000 people were infected by July 2003, and 774 died. A small outbreak in 2004 involved only four more cases. This coronavirus causes fever, headache, and respiratory problems such as cough and shortness of breath.

MERS started in Saudi Arabia in 2012. Almost all of the nearly 2,500 cases have been in people who live in or travel to the Middle East. This coronavirus is less contagious than its SARS cousin but more deadly, killing 858 people. It has the same respiratory symptoms but can also cause kidney failure.
